Now that the summer and heat are finally here, the kids are home and the rush of summer activities starts, I wanted to remind everyone of a few upcoming deadlines and events.
If you have a minute during the long weekend, why not take some time to register for the upcoming season? Registration is easy and can be done from the comfort of your favourite binge-watching spot or Muskoka chair. Just login to http://oakvillecurlingclub.com and follow the prompts. For those of you who have already registered, thank you very much.
Speaking of registrations, we still have room in our adult and youth summer leagues. If you or anyone you know are interested in playing, please check out our offerings. It’s a great opportunity to tune up for the new curling season and a chance to win some cash!
We also have room in our Youth Summer Camp, happening August 19-23.
Save-the-date: The world comes to Oakville! Teams from Canada, USA, China, Sweden, Scotland, Japan, South Korea, Norway, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland and the Czech Republic gather at the annual Oakville Fall Classic (Aug 30 - Sep1) and the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard (Sep 4 - 8) to compete for the championships. With more than 60 teams vying for top prize, these spiels will be bigger and better than ever, and the OCC will play host to some spectacular curling.
Speaking of which, there is a Swedish women’s team looking for accommodations during that time while they’re in Oakville to train. If you are interested in home-hosting some up-and-coming curling superstars for a couple of weeks, please contact me.
With that, I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer. See you at the Club soon!
You are invited!

NOTE: The date for the Annual General Meeting has been changed.
The Annual General Meeting of the Members of the Oakville Curling Club will be held WEDNESDAY, THE 26th DAY OF JUNE, 2019, at 7:00 pm for the following purpose:
- Acceptance of Minutes of Annual General Meeting held June 20th, 2018
- President's Report
- Director’s Reports
- Review and adopt the Financial Statements for the year ended April 30th 2019, copy of which accompanies this notice, together with the Auditor's Report
- Review of the Operating Budget for 2019/2020
- Appoint Auditors and authorize the Board to set their remuneration
- Elect Directors
- Confirm the Acts of the Directors for the preceding year
- Transact such business as may come before the meeting or any adjournment thereof
In the recent Annual General Meeting Notice, we were still waiting for the audited financial statements. It was our hope that we would have them by last Saturday and thus comply with our bylaws requiring the information be provided at least 10 days prior to the AGM date.
Since we did not receive them at that time and in order to provide our members the time to review all of the materials in the AGM package and to comply with our bylaws, we will be postponing the previously announced AGM date. The Board of Directors will be meeting this Thursday, June 13th to approve the new date and a new Meeting Notice email, with the complete Meeting Package, will follow on Friday.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused with making the previous date available and hope that you will be able to attend the new date when announced.
President, Board of Directors

Our good friend Mark Ashley joined Oakville Curling Club in September 2017. For someone who was only at the club for two years, he has probably met and curled with more people than most.
We are so sorry to say that he was diagnosed with cancer mid-March and passed away last week. Mark touched the lives of so many with his enthusiasm and exuberance. We invite you to come celebrate Mark’s life with us.
