Wednesday, March 5, 2025 – Oakville Curling Club
The Jerry Sproat Senior Men's Bonspiel is named after a long-time member of the Oakville Curling Club who was deeply involved in senior curling in the club. One of his favorite projects was a Senior Men's bonspiel in March of each year. Jerry organized the event and solicited volunteers from the club to cook and serve the lunch. Clean-up responsibilities also fell to the volunteers. It was hugely popular. Illness befell Jerry and the bonspiel faded away. Several years back, the Club decided to restore the March senior men's bonspiel and to honour Jerry by naming it after him. While Jerry has now passed, his memory lives on through the bonspiel.
This year’s edition of the bonspiel hosted a full complement of 32 teams including our honorary team, Team Sproat and Team Oak-Land Ford Lincoln representing our sponsor and comprising of club members who were employees of Ford Oakville. Other teams travelled from Milton, Mississauga, Brampton, Dundas and Kitchener to engage in fun and competitive games with senior men from our club to vie for their names on the cup. In the end it was Team Belfry from KW Granite emerging as the early draw champs and our own Team Lawton who were tops in the late draw.
Ultimately, the real winners are the many children who will benefit from the wonderful work of Food4Kids. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of our curlers, a considerable amount was raised through registration and raffles for Food4Kids in Halton.
Special thanks to the members of the organizing committee which ran the bonspiel with support from our tireless and dedicated OCC staff, Oak-Land Ford Lincoln, numerous local businesses who provided prizes and support, and the senior men from OCC and other clubs whose participation contributed to an enjoyable and memorable day for everyone.
