Wednesday, March 5, 2025 – Oakville Curling Club
The Jerry Sproat Senior Men's Bonspiel is named after a long-time member of the Oakville Curling Club who was deeply involved in senior curling in the club. One of his favorite projects was a Senior Men's bonspiel in March of each year. Jerry organized the event and solicited volunteers from the club to cook and serve the lunch. Clean-up responsibilities also fell to the volunteers. It was hugely popular. Illness befell Jerry and the bonspiel faded away. Several years back, the Club decided to restore the March senior men's bonspiel and to honour Jerry by naming it after him. While Jerry has now passed, his memory lives on through the bonspiel.
This year’s edition of the bonspiel hosted a full complement of 32 teams including our honorary team, Team Sproat and Team Oak-Land Ford Lincoln representing our sponsor and comprising of club members who were employees of Ford Oakville. Other teams travelled from Milton, Mississauga, Brampton, Dundas and Kitchener to engage in fun and competitive games with senior men from our club to vie for their names on the cup. In the end it was Team Belfry from KW Granite emerging as the early draw champs and our own Team Lawton who were tops in the late draw.
Ultimately, the real winners are the many children who will benefit from the wonderful work of Food4Kids. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of our curlers, a considerable amount was raised through registration and raffles for Food4Kids in Halton.
Special thanks to the members of the organizing committee which ran the bonspiel with support from our tireless and dedicated OCC staff, Oak-Land Ford Lincoln, numerous local businesses who provided prizes and support, and the senior men from OCC and other clubs whose participation contributed to an enjoyable and memorable day for everyone.

Attention curlers from across Ontario! Dust off your brooms and get ready to sweep your way into the most anticipated event of the summer – the Oakville Curling Club Summer Curling League! Whether you're a seasoned pro or just looking to avoid mowing the lawn, this league is for you.
Why should you join?
- Because who needs a beach when you can have a sheet of ice? Our Summer Curling League is the perfect way to stay cool and show off your curling prowess. Plus, it's a great excuse to wear those stylish curling pants you've been hiding in your closet.
What to expect:
- Epic Matches: Get ready for some friendly (and maybe not-so-friendly) competition. Show off your skills and aim for the button – or at least try not to fall.
- Social Shenanigans: Meet fellow curlers from all over Ontario. Share tips, tricks, and maybe a few laughs over a post-game beverage.
- Returning Members Perks: If you're a returning member, you get a two-week grace period to secure your spot from last season. Don't miss out on your chance to reclaim your curling glory!
You could tell the 59th edition of the Sportsman would be something special right from the opening ceremony when bonspiel chairman Jeff Lancaster announced that Plusgrade Inc. had already donated $6,000 to our charitable partner Sleeping Children Around The World.
And with that news, we were off and running.
With our “draw to the button” tie breaker rule in effect, multiple Friday night games came down to the steely nerve of the men chosen to throw the draw to either win…or lose their opening match. And the addition of the Cornhole tournament on Friday night kept the energy in the lounge well into the wee hours. Of course with each team vying to win the “Win Back Your Entry” contest as well as the tension filled “Elimination Draw”, there weren’t too many minutes without with some kind of action. Oh, and the usual poker tournament kept all the wannabe Daniel Negreanu’s dreaming of the final table.
And when it was all over Team Jim Wilson was crowned the champion and collectively we raised over $28,000 for Sleeping Children.
The committee would like to acknowledge our incredible sponsors without whom this spiel would not be the same. See the list below of all of those who have made the weekend what it was.
And it only gets better! Next year will be the 60th Sportsman’s Bonspiel! The committee is already putting plans in place to make next year’s event something to remember. Be sure to put January 23-25, 2026 in your calendar.
We will see you then!

Oakville, ON – July 31, 2024 – The Oakville Curling Club is thrilled to announce that it has been selected by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) for a significant grant aimed at enhancing accessibility and ensuring compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). This funding will play a crucial role in our commitment to creating an inclusive environment where all members of the community can enjoy the sport of curling.
Curling is a place for everyone, and for most people, their journey in the sport begins with small community clubs. As such, Oakville Curling Club members Scott Cooke and Erin Flowers wanted to give back. TSN's Bob Weeks has more.
The park on the north side of the curling club will initiate development on January 2nd, 2024. Please see the images as to what is being built as well as the fence that will be erected during the construction phase.
