You could tell the 59^th edition of the Sportsman would be something special right from the opening ceremony when bonspiel chairman Jeff Lancaster announced that Plusgrade Inc. had already donated $6,000 to our charitable partner Sleeping Children Around The World.

And with that news, we were off and running.

With our “draw to the button” tie breaker rule in effect, multiple Friday night games came down to the steely nerve of the men chosen to throw the draw to either win…or lose their opening match. And the addition of the Cornhole tournament on Friday night kept the energy in the lounge well into the wee hours. Of course with each team vying to win the “Win Back Your Entry” contest as well as the tension filled “Elimination Draw”, there weren’t too many minutes without with some kind of action. Oh, and the usual poker tournament kept all the wannabe Daniel Negreanu’s dreaming of the final table.

And when it was all over Team Jim Wilson was crowned the champion and collectively we raised over $28,000 for Sleeping Children.

And it only gets better! Next year will be the 60^th Sportsman’s Bonspiel! The committee is already putting plans in place to make next year’s event something to remember. Be sure to put January 23-25, 2026 in your calendar.
