Oakville, ON – July 31, 2024 – The Oakville Curling Club is thrilled to announce that it has been selected by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) for a significant grant aimed at enhancing accessibility and ensuring compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). This funding will play a crucial role in our commitment to creating an inclusive environment where all members of the community can enjoy the sport of curling.
The generous grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will be directed towards a comprehensive project to make the Oakville Curling Club more accessible to individuals of all abilities. This initiative includes upgrading our facilities to meet AODA standards, implementing accessible features in our infrastructure, and improving overall accessibility for our members and guests.
"We are incredibly grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this support," said Greg Irwin, Club President of the Oakville Curling Club. "This grant represents a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to ensure that everyone in our community can enjoy the benefits of curling. Accessibility is a key priority for us, and this funding will enable us to make meaningful improvements that align with our values of inclusivity and community engagement." “On behalf of the board of directors I'd like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Accessibility Committee for their hard work”.
The project will involve several key improvements, including the installation of accessible ramps to the lounge and curling rink, modifications to restrooms, electric doors and designated accessible parking. These enhancements are designed to create a welcoming environment for all, ensuring that every visitor and member has a positive experience at our club.
The Oakville Curling Club has a long-standing tradition of fostering a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship. With the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we are excited to continue our mission of providing a high-quality curling experience while ensuring that our facilities are accessible and inclusive.
