Manager’s “That’s a Wrap” - A Season to Remember: 2025-26 Year in Review

Ian TetleyDear Members,

As the final stones have been thrown for the 2025-26 season, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a truly landmark year for the Oakville Curling Club.

Building for the Future

Our season began long before the ice was even in. Last summer, we successfully completed several vital Capital Improvements, including the West Parking Lot revitalization and upgraded drainage on the north side. Most importantly, with our new sidewalk and entrance, we have achieved full accessibility. Seeing para-athletes and guests navigate our club with ease is a milestone we should all be incredibly proud of. Special thanks to Karl Mitchell who spent countless hours guiding me and our engineers on moving these projects forward.

We installed new updated Digital cameras to our ice surface with Streaming available through YouTube on sheets 3 and 6. We will tweak this even more in the off-season.

Off-Season Improvements this Summer

We will focus on upgrading our lounge roof which tends to leak. The ice arena roof will get a new paint job since some rust is starting to show its ugly head. We will clean up the asphalt along Wallace Park alley area next to our building that seems to be eroding away. We will add new fencing in the West Parking area around Scott’s condenser and dehumidification equipment. We are also chasing to redo the men’s locker room which is in dire need of a makeover. The end goal is to keep making your club even better.

Spectacular Events & Competition

From a smooth summer season to our high-energy in-house spiels, the atmosphere at the club has been electric.

  • Signature Success: United We Curl and The Gathering continue to set the gold standard for events curlers love to attend.
  • Club Classics: The Sportsman, The Annie, and the Jerry Sproat provided exceptional entertainment and camaraderie.
  • Championship Finish: We capped off the year by hosting the Ontario Seniors Provincials, Kurl for Kids, and a historic 50th Anniversary of the World Lefthanders.

A special thank you to Cynthia Quigley and her committee for an unforgettable Lefthanders event. Welcoming Mark Kennedy was a highlight—his stories, Olympic medals, and his candid "confession" regarding the infamous "Poked Rock" left us all inspired, laughing and leaving us with lasting memories.

Gratitude to Our Leaders

This club is considered a premier facility in Canada because of the people who pour their hearts into it. I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to all our dedicated convenors. Your hard work creates the environment, the scheduling and teams we all enjoy.

To our Board of Directors, our various committees, and our phenomenal staff: thank you for your leadership and for keeping our momentum moving forward.

To Casey and Scott who have been the backbone of this organization for over 25 years, I am grateful for your professionalism, your continued dedication to excellence, and keeping a smile on your faces.

It is an honour to serve as your Manager. Thank you for a fantastic season, and I look forward to seeing you all back on the ice soon.

Good curling,
Ian Tetley - GM

Weekend Mixed Wrap Up 2026

Well that's a wrap!

88FEE379-23C3-46A4-99D4-D891F044D018.PNG

It was an action packed three days at our Mixed Championship Weekend 2026, graciously sponsored this year by Amenida/Trafalgar Lodge. We enjoyed:

  • Lots of good food (thank you to Pizzaolio, Sobeys, Monastery Bakery, Swiss Chalet and to all of you for providing the yummy desserts!)
  • Lots of good fun  with special thanks to Dear Abbey and Orphan George for the Saturday evening entertainment...quite a vibe in the club that evening!
  • And lots of good curling throughout the weekend!

My thanks go out to Ian and Casey, the bar staff, the ice crew and to Jan, Jane and Steve for helping pull the whole event together. Also a high five to all competitors who brought so much enthusiasm to the weekend. Click on this link to view some photos your committee pulled together for your viewing enjoyment:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/7TRPdcfEodEQgWLu9

As for the results, the first round produced quite a few upsets with Divisions A through F seeing the #1 seed knocked off by the #8 seed. The A Division final pitted multiple former champion Team McLaren against the #2 seed Team Foster and it was a thriller, coming down to a last rock draw for the win. So, with great respect to the recently retired Vic Rauter, I'll say "Make the final"... 5-4 (or was it 6-3?) for our newly crowned 2026 Weekend Mixed Club Champions...Team Foster!

  • Skip - Scott Foster
  • Vice - Melissa Foster
  • Second - Greg McKnight
  • Lead - Laura Beneteau

And a big congratulations to all our other Division Champions!

  • B - Team Gareau
  • C - Team Beattie
  • D - Team Best
  • E - Team Chan
  • F - Team Rotman
  • G - Team Liu-Ernsting
  • H - Team Werbowski
  • I - Team O'Hare
  • J - Team Ghoshdastidar

Many thanks to everyone for your support and encouragement throughout the year. I hope to see you all next year but please let me know if you or your team won't be returning as I have started a wait list of teams hoping to join in on the fun.

Happy Spring!
