Team Webster at the Ontario Masters Provincial Playdowns! | Update

Update

Over the past 5 days Oakville Curling Clubs' Team Webster competed in the Ontario Men's Masters Championship in Ottawa. The team, comprised of Steve Smith (lead), Dave Sykes (2nd), Wayne Martin (vice) and Bruce Webster (skip) finished the round robin at 5 - 2 and won their semi final game before a loss in the finals to the undefeated Team Lewis.

Our sincere congratulations to Team Webster on an outstanding event! You have made us all proud!

Ladies and gentlemen, curling aficionados, and sports fans, get ready for an exhilarating week of curling action as the Bruce Webster team takes to the ice at the Ontario Masters Provincial Playdowns! This prestigious event is set to unfold from December 11th to 15th, 2024, at the newly built Granite Curling Club of West Ottawa.

Leading this formidable team is the legendary Bruce Webster, a name etched in curling history. Webster, who captured the World Junior Curling Championships in 1983 playing third for John Base, has been largely retired from competitive curling, with a notable exception being his 1993 Ontario Colts championship victory. Now, he's back, bringing his wealth of experience and strategic acumen to the forefront.

Joining Webster is third Wayne Martin, a seasoned competitor who participated in the 2022 Masters Provincials and was the runner-up in the Colts championship back in 1982. Martin's experience and precision make him a key player to watch.

Second Dave Sykes brings a rich history to the team, having competed in the Quebec Provincial Men's Championship in 1983, where he faced off against the eventual winner, Denis Marchand. Sykes' resilience and tactical prowess are invaluable assets to the team.

Rounding out the squad is lead Steve Smith, who last competed in the Quebec Colts in 1984, where he emerged victorious. Smith's consistency and skill at the lead position provide a solid foundation for the team's success.

Representing the Oakville Curling Club, these gentlemen are not just competing; they're aiming to add another banner to their club's storied collection. The Granite Curling Club of West Ottawa, with its state-of-the-art facilities, is the perfect venue for this high-stakes competition.

As the playdowns commence, all eyes will be on Team Webster. Will they rise to the occasion and secure the provincial title? With Webster's leadership and the team's combined experience, the stage is set for an unforgettable curling spectacle. Stay tuned, folks, because this is one event you won't want to miss!
