A Brand-New Locker Room Built for the Next 30 Years!

Dear Men's Members,

We are thrilled to announce major progress on the complete renovation of our Men's Locker Room! We are officially saying goodbye to a space that felt stuck in the 1960s and stepping into a modern, spacious, and beautifully crafted facility designed to serve the Oakville Curling Club membership for the next 30 years.

This project represents a significant upgrade in craftsmanship, security, capacity, and comfort. Below is a comprehensive update on current progress, installation timelines, key feature enhancements, and details regarding locker assignments and lock operation.

Current Status & Installation Timeline

Construction and assembly are proceeding at full speed. Here is where the renovation currently stands and what will be finalized over the next few weeks:

  • Base Frames Installed (~170 Lockers): The base wooden frame structures for approximately 170 lockers have been fully assembled and anchored into place.
  • Base Completion (In Progress): All remaining locker frame bases across the entire locker room will be fully erected.
  • Final Finishing Target — October 26th: Complete installation of all finished wooden doors, interior coat hanger rods, 3 internal hanging hooks, upper shelving, lower shoe compartments, and embedded locks.

New Lockers & Security Features

Each locker has been meticulously designed to maximize usable storage space, clean aesthetic appeal, and effortless member convenience.

  • Standardized Dimensions: Every locker measures a uniform 12 inches wide by 18 inches deep by 80 inches tall.
  • Embedded Combination Dial Locks: Say goodbye to personal padlocks! Every locker door comes equipped with a built-in, flush-mounted combination dial lock.
  • Locker Numbers Retained: Your locker number will NOT change! You will retain your familiar number, but will be issued a new security combination.
  • Master Key Override (No More Lock Cutting!): All combination locks feature a master key override. If you ever forget your combination, Casey or Management can instantly open your locker using a master key.
  • Thoughtful Internal Layout: Includes a full-width upper hat/gear shelf, a sturdy stainless steel hanger rod, three internal hanging hooks, and a dedicated bottom shoe compartment.

Figure 3: Built-in combination lock with oval number plate mounted on rich wood finish door.

Figure 4: Interior storage layout with top shelf, hanger rod, 3 side hooks, and bottom shoe shelf.

New Guest & Day Locker Area (Lockers 187 to 198)

During the layout redesign, we encountered a structural overhead bulkhead in the section housing lockers 187 through 198. Installing full 80-inch tall lockers in this specific footprint would have resulted in awkward, overly cramped vertical dimensions.

To maximize efficiency and provide an added amenity for the club, we converted lockers 187 to 198 into 12 dedicated half-lockers.

Important Details for Lockers 187–198:
• Day & Guest Use: These 12 half-lockers (187 to 198) will serve visiting curlers, spare players, and guests, or members who prefer a convenient half-sized locker.
• Member Reassignment Notice: If your previous locker was in the 187–198 range, you will be reassigned a brand-new full-sized locker elsewhere in the room. Management will contact affected members directly with your new locker assignment.

Expanded Aisleways & Locker Room Layout

One of the biggest complaints regarding the old 1960s layout was crowded aisle congestion before and after draws. We listened! The new floor plan features widened aisleways measuring 5.5 to 6 feet across, providing ample room for members to change gear, stretch out, and socialize comfortably without feeling crowded.

Updated Men's Locker Room Floor Plan Layout

Figure 5: Updated master floor plan layout detailing locker banks 1 through 283, main entrance pathways, day lockers section, furnace room, and washroom layout.

Figure 6: Broadened aisles and open structure framework during initial base assembly.

Member Next Steps & Key Dates

Action Required for Members:
1. Final Installation Deadline: October 26th — All doors, internal hardware, and locks will be complete.
2. Combination Pickup: Your personal lock combination will be provided prior to your first draw following October 26th.
3. Need Assistance? If you have questions regarding locker reassignments or forget your combination once installed, please see Casey or Club Management.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to all our members for your enthusiasm and cooperation throughout this transformation. This upgraded facility is a true investment in the future of the Oakville Curling Club, and we look forward to seeing everyone enjoy it for decades to come!

Good curling,

Casey & The OCC Management Team

Oakville Curling Club — Men's Locker Room Modernization Project  •  October 2026

🥌 Winter Curling is Back!

The 2026–27 season gets underway Tuesday, October 13

The wait is almost over.

Beginning Tuesday, October 13th — the day after Thanksgiving — regular league curling returns to the Oakville Curling Club!

After a busy summer of curling, events, camps, clinics and preparation, we’re excited to welcome everyone back for another full season of competition, camaraderie and great curling.

Whether you’re chasing a league championship, reconnecting with teammates, meeting new members or simply looking forward to getting back on the ice each week, it all starts October 13.

✅ FIRST STEP: CHECK YOUR SCHEDULE

Before your league begins, please take a few minutes to log in to:

oakvillecurlingclub.com

Once logged in, head to your personal Members Corner.

Your Members Corner should automatically show your upcoming games for approximately the next two weeks, giving you a quick snapshot of:

  • Your next game
  • Your draw time
  • Your opponent
  • Your sheet assignment
  • Other upcoming games on your schedule

We strongly encourage everyone to check this before the season starts so you know exactly when you’re playing.

🔎 WANT TO SEE THE FULL PICTURE? OPEN GAMECENTER

Your Member’s Corner is only the beginning.

Click the GameCenter button and you’ll have access to much more information about your league and your season.

Inside GameCenter you can explore:

  • Your complete league schedule
  • All teams in your league
  • League standings and results
  • League rules and important information
  • Team rosters
  • Spare lists, when you need help filling a position
  • Upcoming games and league activity

GameCenter is one of the best tools available to members, and we encourage everyone to spend a few minutes becoming familiar with it.

👥 NEED A SPARE?

Life happens. Vacations, work, family commitments and the occasional aching knee can all interfere with curling.

If you know you’re going to miss a game, check the spares list in GameCenter as early as possible.

Giving yourself extra time to find a replacement makes life easier for your teammates, your league convenors and your fellow members.

📱 MAKE MEMBERS CORNER PART OF YOUR ROUTINE

Throughout the season, your Members Corner and GameCenter should be your first stop whenever you need to check:

  • “When do I curl?”
  • “Who are we playing?”
  • “What sheet are we on?”
  • “What are the league rules?”
  • “Who can I call as a spare?”

Chances are, the answer is already waiting for you online.

🥌 GET READY TO CURL!

Sharpen the slider, check the gripper, dust off the broom and get ready for another fantastic season.

The ice is waiting.

The leagues are ready.

And starting Tuesday, October 13th, regular curling is officially back at the Oakville Curling Club.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone around the club, on the ice and enjoying another great season together.

Welcome back — and good curling! 🥌

Major Upgrade Coming to the Men’s Locker Room!

We are thrilled to announce a full transformation of the Oakville Curling Club men's locker room! We are completely updating the space into a premier, high-quality room for our members and guests.

ACTION REQUIRED: Clear Out Lockers by Saturday Evening

To allow work to begin on schedule, all members must remove all personal belongings and curling gear from their lockers no later than Saturday evening.

On Sunday morning, contractors and movers arrive to tear out and scrap the old lockers. Any gear left in the lockers after Saturday night will be held in the boardroom temporarily.

What to Expect from the Renovation

  • Custom Wood Lockers: Replacing the current lockers with modern, high-quality wood lockers for a complete aesthetic upgrade.
  • Fresh Renovation: Full wall-to-wall paint refresh and brand-new carpeting throughout the facility.
  • Increased Capacity: Expanding total capacity from 255 lockers up to 278 lockers.
  • Guest & Spare Storage: Integrating dedicated half-lockers specifically allocated for visiting guests, spares, and bonspiel curlers.
  • Spacious Layout: The updated layout features wider main aisles to improve movement and traffic flow during draw transitions.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in clearing out your lockers by Saturday night so we can keep this exciting project moving forward smoothly!

Dust off those brooms—Oakville Curling Club Summer League starts next week!

Dear Curlers,

Welcome to another exciting season of the Oakville Curling Club Summer League! All play kicks off next Monday, which means it’s officially time to start limbering up those muscles—and yes, that means doing a stretch without a 12 oz drink in your hand!

It’s time to dig into the closet, find that curling broom that’s been collecting dust all summer, and track down your shoes, slacks, warm jacket, and gloves. Don't forget to check the bottom of your curling bag for your stopwatch; make sure it still works or grab a fresh battery before heading over.

To help keep our season running smoothly, here is everything you need to know before stepping onto the ice:

⏰ Game Times & Bell Rule

Games begin precisely at 6:30 PM and 8:45 PM. We will be using the bell rule to keep games on track. There will be one bell per game. When you hear it, finish the end you are currently playing, plus one more.

  • Early Draw (6:30 PM): Bell rings 1 hour and 40 minutes into the game at 8:10 PM.
  • Late Draw (8:45 PM): The bell will sound 1 hour and 40 minutes after the last game of the draw has officially begun.

❄️ Ice Etiquette, Preparation & Safety

  • Ice Crew Space: Please give our hardworking ice crew plenty of space to get the sheets in top shape. This is especially significant for those playing at 8:45pm. The Nipper is the device that has a very sharp blade used for clipping the top layer of pebble off, so the ice is quick right off the start. Please use common sense.
  • Practice Slides: For your safety, do not practice slide until the numbers on your scoreboard have been removed. That is your cue that the ice is officially ready for you.
  • Rocks: Because the first week coincides with our Summer Youth Camp, the rocks have not been sanded yet. The ice may be straighter the first week, but beware the second week, Scott and his crew will be hard at work over the weekend.
  • Opening Week Bonus: Next week only, ice will be ready at 6:15 PM for those who want to get a few extra slides in and find their "sea legs" after lounging on the beach all summer! Please exercise caution on your maiden voyage back onto the ice. (Note: There is no practice ice available prior to opening games).

🗓️ League Schedules & Schedule Interruptions

You can view all teams and complete game schedules in the Summer GameCentre. Please remember to record the winner/loser/tie after your games—no trophies are on the line, but bragging rights certainly are!

Spares: We are relatively liberal with spares during our summer season. If you need a spare, you have two options.

  1. Use the spares list: Spares List – This list provides names and contacts for people who would be happy to fill in for you.
  2. Friend to spare – if you have a friend that would like to play for you. We are ok with this as long as they complete the waiver and hand in at the office: Waiver

Please note the following schedule adjustments:

  • Monday Night League: No curling on September 7th due to the Labour Day holiday weekend. Your final game will be played on October 5th.
  • Thursday Night League: Due to the overwhelming popularity of our Stu Sells Event, there will be no summer league games on September 10th. That game has been moved to October 8th.

💰 Competitive League Payouts

Winning teams can collect their cash prize at the bar right after their game! The bartenders will have your envelope waiting for you—cold, hard cash to buy your opposition their beverage of choice.

We are looking forward to a fantastic, fun-filled summer season. If you have any questions before next week, please feel free to reach out.

Good curling to all!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! It won't be long before we are back on the ice and I'm looking forward to another wonderful season. If we haven't met before, I joined the club in 2020 and after only two games on the ice, joined the Board of Directors. I was the Mixed League Director for 3 seasons and Vice-President for 2 seasons, and I'm thrilled to take on the role of President at this club that has given me so much over the years. I curl on Tuesday Nights Men's, Sunday Doubles and can often be found sparing in the Weekend Mixed league.

I will be stopping by each league this Fall to introduce myself, but if you see me around, please introduce yourself and feel free to share your experiences at the Oakville Curling Club. We have been working hard on club improvements in the past few years, and I hope to continue these improvements over the next two seasons.

For now, I wish everyone good knee and hip health so that your draws are pure and takeouts are powerful come October!

🥌 Huge News! Supporting OCC’s Own on the National Stage 🚀

Hi OCC Members,

We have some incredibly exciting news to share about our own home-club talent! Some of the finest curlers to ever step onto Oakville ice have teamed up to take on the absolute best in Canadian Men’s curling—and they are already taking the curling world by storm.

As a club, we couldn't be prouder to watch them represent the OCC on the national and international stage. Check out this special message from Past President Greg Irwin below to see how our amazing business community can rally behind Team Young and join them on their journey to the Brier!

To all Oakville Curling Club members.

Our fellow Oakville Curling Club member Nathan Young has joined fellow OCC member Brady Lumley and former OCC members Matt Garner and Spencer Dunlop representing the Oakville Curling Club to compete at the very highest level in Canadian Men’s curling. The new team is ranked #13 in Canada and #31 in the world and they are just getting started!

All 4 of these gentlemen have impressive track records. Amongst their many accomplishments, Nathan has skipped in the Brier 3 times representing Newfoundland including this past year where he and his team performed exceptionally well. Brady, Matt and Spencer have all enjoyed great success as well with former skip Mark Kean, playing in the Ontario Tankard twice and narrowly missing out in making the finals and finishing 3rd in both years.

Equally important is that these young men are all off exceptional character and the OCC should be proud and honoured that they are representing us on the national and international stage!

This kind of endeavour requires tremendous effort and support. Hours and hours of training is required of the Team and as a club we are hoping that those of you in the business community can step up with much needed financial support to assist Team Young in reaching their many goals including competing and winning a WCT event, competing in Grand Slam events, winning in the Ontario Tankard and competing in the Brier. Lofty goals to be sure that can only happen with your support.

When I say this is a great opportunity for you and your business I mean it. When you meet and get to know these young men as I have you will realize what great brand ambassadors they would be for your company. They have prepared a brief presentation as to specific branding opportunities they offer and I encourage any of you that may be interested to please contact me and I’d be more than happy to make the introductions and see if this might work for your business.

You can view their Sponsorship Packages here.

On behalf of Nathan, Brady, Matt and Spencer, thank you for your consideration and support.

Manager’s “That’s a Wrap” - A Season to Remember: 2025-26 Year in Review

Ian TetleyDear Members,

As the final stones have been thrown for the 2025-26 season, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a truly landmark year for the Oakville Curling Club.

Building for the Future

Our season began long before the ice was even in. Last summer, we successfully completed several vital Capital Improvements, including the West Parking Lot revitalization and upgraded drainage on the north side. Most importantly, with our new sidewalk and entrance, we have achieved full accessibility. Seeing para-athletes and guests navigate our club with ease is a milestone we should all be incredibly proud of. Special thanks to Karl Mitchell who spent countless hours guiding me and our engineers on moving these projects forward.

We installed new updated Digital cameras to our ice surface with Streaming available through YouTube on sheets 3 and 6. We will tweak this even more in the off-season.

Off-Season Improvements this Summer

We will focus on upgrading our lounge roof which tends to leak. The ice arena roof will get a new paint job since some rust is starting to show its ugly head. We will clean up the asphalt along Wallace Park alley area next to our building that seems to be eroding away. We will add new fencing in the West Parking area around Scott’s condenser and dehumidification equipment. We are also chasing to redo the men’s locker room which is in dire need of a makeover. The end goal is to keep making your club even better.

Spectacular Events & Competition

From a smooth summer season to our high-energy in-house spiels, the atmosphere at the club has been electric.

  • Signature Success: United We Curl and The Gathering continue to set the gold standard for events curlers love to attend.
  • Club Classics: The Sportsman, The Annie, and the Jerry Sproat provided exceptional entertainment and camaraderie.
  • Championship Finish: We capped off the year by hosting the Ontario Seniors Provincials, Kurl for Kids, and a historic 50th Anniversary of the World Lefthanders.

A special thank you to Cynthia Quigley and her committee for an unforgettable Lefthanders event. Welcoming Mark Kennedy was a highlight—his stories, Olympic medals, and his candid "confession" regarding the infamous "Poked Rock" left us all inspired, laughing and leaving us with lasting memories.

Gratitude to Our Leaders

This club is considered a premier facility in Canada because of the people who pour their hearts into it. I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to all our dedicated convenors. Your hard work creates the environment, the scheduling and teams we all enjoy.

To our Board of Directors, our various committees, and our phenomenal staff: thank you for your leadership and for keeping our momentum moving forward.

To Casey and Scott who have been the backbone of this organization for over 25 years, I am grateful for your professionalism, your continued dedication to excellence, and keeping a smile on your faces.

It is an honour to serve as your Manager. Thank you for a fantastic season, and I look forward to seeing you all back on the ice soon.

Good curling,
Ian Tetley - GM
