Senators

The Senators league boasted 31 new or returning-from-at-least-a-year's-absence "retired gentlemen" to its roster for the 2023-2024 season.  The volunteer crew, as always, went above and beyond in managing the league's operations.  There were more players, more teams, more games, more prizes, and the practice of telling bad jokes after each draw remained at its long-time standard.  Highlights of the Senators season included:
  • a return to the use of the mostly vacant ice time on Friday mornings - a win-win for both the Oakville Curling Club and the Senators league
  • two well-attended and much enjoyed luncheons, one at Christmas, and the end of season Closing Lunch.  The Christmas lunch also included several retired-from-curling Senators, who we are always pleased to see, and are welcome to attend and socialize anytime Senators curling is happening.
  • to add variety to the games, and responding to the previous year's Senators' survey, skins games were brought back on a monthly basis, and position rotations were introduced on an occasional basis.  Another important format change was making all games 7 ends, to ensure that all teams would have an equal number of ends played, and keep everyone's chances of earning prizes fair.
  • games at other clubs (Dixie, Mississaugua, and Burlington Golf) were a regular part of the Senators schedule.  Teams from Dixie and Mississaugua came to play at Oakville, as well.  Senators players, both from Oakville and from other curling clubs, look forward to maintaining these enjoyable inter-club relationships.
The Senators league looks forward to welcoming more new (and returning?) players to its numbers in the coming years.  We have a spot for you.
