You may have noticed artwork hanging on the Club Champions wall in the lounge – if you haven’t, we encourage you to view it the next time you are in the Club. For those not aware, the Oakville Curling Club partnered with Sheridan College's Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design (FAAD) to establish the Mural Design Challenge. The Challenge was open to all FAAD students with the purpose of (1) creating a visually engaging design that reflected the spirit, heritage and inclusion of curling and the Oakville Curling Club and (2) in furtherance of the Club’s mission to support local community student development by providing Sheridan FAAD students a real-world venue & opportunity to showcase their talents.
On Friday March 8th, 2024, the deadline for submissions closed and the finalists’ designs selected. Those design series are available to view on the Club Champions wall, on the Club’s Mural Design Challenge webpage and below. In April, members will receive instructions and asked to vote for two things: (1) the design series they would like to see in the arena and (2) where in the arena the murals will be hung. Note, members will have the option when voting to indicate they’d rather not have any design hung in the arena.
If so inclined, members can make a tax-deductible donation (for amounts over $10) towards the Mural Design Challenge through the National Sports Trust Fund (NSTF). The proceeds will be used towards the OCC Mural Design Challenge (prize award, mural creation & installation) and other initiatives for the arena’s general appearance. Donors who contribute at the certain levels may also choose to have their names appear alongside the murals in recognition of their generosity.
