Hugh Murphy Scholarship Winners for 2026-27

HUGH MURPHY SCHOLARSHIP 6 x 6 in

The Oakville Curling Club is proud to announce the creation of the Hugh Murphy Scholarship, a new award established to support young athletes from our club as they pursue post-secondary education.

Hugh Murphy was a long-time member of the Oakville Curling Club and a friend to many. He is fondly remembered for his warm, genuine personality and his great big smile. His record as a Mixed Curling Club Champion is unmatched. He is dearly missed by all who knew him.  As impressive as Hugh’s accomplishments were as a curler, his true legacy was not measured in banners—it was measured in people.

Hugh’s real passion was junior curling. He believed deeply in helping young curlers grow in skill, confidence, and love for the game. He gave his time generously. He offered on-ice instruction, made introductions, opened doors for young athletes, and created opportunities for kids to build friendships and community. Many will remember Hugh for the joy and connection he brought to youth curling through events like his Orphans Bonspiel, and for the many fun, welcoming junior experiences where kids could laugh, play, and enjoy the great game of curling. The Hugh Murphy Scholarship reflects the values Hugh lived every day: kindness, encouragement, and a belief that character matters as much as competition.

The Hugh Murphy Scholarship will provide financial assistance (up to $2000) to help reduce the cost of post-secondary education for the selected recipients.

We’re delighted to announce that the 2026 Hugh Murphy Scholarship has been awarded to two youth curlers at the Oakville Curling Club who both share a long history of involvement and commitment to the club’s youth curling program. Congratulations to Sofia Pantaleo and Colsen Flemington. Sofia is in her first-year at University of Toronto, majoring in Life Sciences. Colsen is in his second-year at Guelph University, in the Bachelor of Commerce program with a major in Real Estate. We wish them great success in their studies and their future curling endeavours.

Wednesday Night Women’s League

Ready to trade the "midweek slump" for the "midweek sweep"? The Wednesday Night Women’s League (WNW) at the Oakville Curling Club is back and better than ever! We’ve refined our format to accommodate our growing community.

The Grand Opening: Rocks & Refreshments

We’re kicking off the season with our newly minted Rocks & Refreshments evening! It’s the perfect launchpad to catch up on summer stories, welcome our newest members, and head down to the ice for some low-pressure practice.

The Season at a Glance

To support our expanding league, we’ve locked in a robust schedule designed for maximum play. You can expect a full season of approximately 21 regular-season games, structured into three distinct series:

  • Series 1: 8 Games
  • Series 2: 8 Games
  • Series 3: 5 Games

Game Times: To keep things balanced, games alternate weekly between the 6:40 PM (Early Draw) and the 9:00 PM (Late Draw).

The "Ladder" System: Fair & Focused

Our league thrives on a Points Ladder System, ensuring you’re always matched against teams of a similar skill level.

  • How it works: Teams earn points for wins, losses, and ties.
  • The Reseed: At the end of each series, the ladder is recalibrated. This keeps the competition fresh and rewarding for everyone.
  • Zero Stress: Don't worry about the math! Our dedicated League Convenor handles all the calculations.

The Path to Glory: Playoffs

Once the regular season wraps up, the stakes get higher! Each division has a single-knockout playoff format. If your team keeps the momentum going, you could add up to 3 extra games to your season. We cap it all off on the final Wednesday of the season with the division championship games and the celebratory WNW Closing Party.

Why WNW?

Quite simply, this is a women’s competitive ladder league that gets more serious towards the top.  WNW is a fantastic way to bond with teammates and opponents who share your competitive nature—the curling just gets in the way before you reach a chilling glass of wine (or Bubly) in the lounge once the handshakes are done.

Day Women’s Monday Ladder League

Looking for a daytime league with strong competition, great camaraderie, and a full season of meaningful games? The Day Women’s Monday Ladder League is our competitive daytime women’s league and one of the best ways to enjoy curling in a spirited, team-focused environment.

Games are played on Monday mornings, with two draw times offered each week: 9:00 a.m. or 12:00 noon. Your weekly game time is determined by the draw your team is placed on, giving the league a well-organized schedule while keeping the competition fresh and engaging throughout the season.

Teams compete together in a round-robin ladder format, where every game contributes to your season-long results. Final standings are based on points accumulated over the entire curling season, making each matchup an opportunity to climb the ladder, build momentum, and challenge yourself against a wide range of teams.

This past season, the league featured an impressive 26 teams, creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere on and off the ice. With continued interest and room for expansion, we are excited to welcome even more curlers into this growing league.

New members are always encouraged to join. You may register as a full team of four, or sign up as an individual and be matched with curlers of similar experience and ability.

Whether you are an experienced curler looking for strong daytime competition or a new member ready to become part of an active and welcoming league, the Day Women’s Monday Ladder League offers a rewarding season of curling, teamwork, sportsmanship, and connection.

Day Women’s Tuesday/Thursday League

Elevate Your Mornings: Day Women’s Curling at the Oakville Curling Club

Looking for a vibrant way to stay active, sharpen your skills, and connect with a fantastic community of women? Look no further than the Day Women’s Tuesday and Thursday League at the Oakville Curling Club!

Designed with a "social-first" philosophy, our morning draws are the perfect blend of recreation and camaraderie. Whether you’re a seasoned slider or looking to refine your delivery, our league prioritizes skill development and fun over intense competition.

Why You’ll Love Our League

  • Flexible Scheduling: Choose to play Tuesday mornings, Thursday mornings, or both! It’s the perfect way to kickstart your day with energy and a smile.
  • Meet Someone New Every Draw: We use a unique "individual entry" system. Players sign up independently, and teams are randomly curated for each of our four series throughout the season. This ensures you’re constantly expanding your social circle and playing with a variety of teammates.
  • The Perfect Balance: While we love the game, we love the people more. Our format encourages a supportive environment where learning the nuances of the sport is just as important as the scoreboard.

More Than Just a Game

The fun doesn’t stop at the rings! Throughout the season, we host several In-House Bonspiels—mini-tournaments that bring a festive flair to the ice. From the holiday-inspired Trim-a-Tree to the celebratory Spring Fling, these themed events are local favorites.

Best of all? Each bonspiel features an optional luncheon, offering the perfect opportunity to relax, share a meal, and trade stories with your fellow curlers in our comfortable lounge.

Join the Community

If you’re looking to improve your game while building lasting friendships, the Oakville Curling Club Day Women’s League is the place to be. Come for the curling, stay for the community—we can’t wait to see you on the ice!

Saturday Morning Open League

Looking to turn your Saturday mornings into the highlight of your week? Whether you’ve just finished your first "Learn to Curl" program or you’ve been throwing stones for decades, the Saturday Morning Open League at the Oakville Curling Club is where community and competition meet in the best way possible.

Why You’ll Love This League

Our league is built on the spirit of growth, mentorship, and good times. We move away from fixed teams to keep things fresh and social, ensuring you meet a wide range of fellow members.

  • Mentorship in Motion: New curlers don't just "play"—they evolve. You’ll be paired with seasoned veterans who are passionate about sharing the "tricks of the trade," helping you master your delivery and strategy in a supportive, real-game environment.
  • Give Back to the Game: For our experienced skips and vices, this is your chance to hone your own skills while shaping the next generation of Oakville curlers. It’s about leadership, legacy, and a shared love for the house.
  • Fresh Starts: We run two distinct series (6–8 games each). The league convenor builds new teams at the start of each series, so you’ll have a whole new crew to bond with halfway through the season.
  • The "Banner" Legacy: While our focus is squarely on fun, we love a little drama! The winning team from each series faces off on the final day for the ultimate bragging rights: seeing your names immortalized on the league banner.

Ready to slide into a better Saturday? Sign up today and let’s get curling!

Saturday 5U Development League

Ready to take your curling journey from "just starting out" to "stone-cold confident"? Welcome to the Saturday 5U League at the Oakville Curling Club—the ultimate Saturday morning launchpad for curlers with five years of experience or less.

This isn’t just another league; it’s a high-energy, supportive environment designed to bridge the gap between "beginner" and "pro" while keeping the vibes high and the pressure low.

Why You’ll Love Saturday Mornings with Us:

  • Level Playing Field: Forget about facing off against grizzled veterans. This league is strictly for developing curlers, ensuring every game is balanced, fair, and fun.
  • On-Ice Mentorship: Stuck on a tactical decision? Need a refresher on etiquette? We have instructors right on the ice to provide real-time guidance. As your confidence grows throughout the season, we’ll scale back the coaching so you can "fly on your own."
  • Pure Fun, Zero Stress: We celebrate the wins each week, but we don’t track season standings. Our goal is growth and enjoyment, not a trophy case.
  • A Social Atmosphere: This is a "join as an individual or couple" league. Our Convenor builds the teams and may rotate players occasionally to help you meet new people and try out different positions. It’s the best way to integrate into the OCC community!

The Details:

Who: Curlers with < 5 years of experience.

Style: Non-competitive, experiential learning.

Format: Individual/Pair registration (Teams of 4 looking for a fixed season should check out our Weekend Mixed Ladder).

Stop overthinking that out-turn and start playing with passion. Whether you’re looking to perfect your slide or finally master house strategy, the 5U League is where your Saturday belongs.

See you on the ice!

Youth Curling Program

The Sunday Youth Curling Program will be open to all youth curlers aged 7-18, no experience required!

The program is run in two 10-week sessions for the U12 group (fall and winter, you are welcome to register for the full season too), and one full length season for the U15 and U18 participants.

Each Sunday session is made up of two main parts: the first half is instruction, followed by games in the second half. On-ice coaches guide athletes through activities focusing on that week's topic. Instruction will focus on technical skills, sportsmanship and etiquette, strategy, respect, and having fun. The lessons will be varied depending on the athletes ages and skill levels. Following an off-ice break to warm up and have a snack, the second half of the session is game-play. Coaches will be on the ice to support the athletes with their technical skills, as well as their communication and team dynamics skills. Teams will be selected each week. Athletes will be placed into teams to best support their athletic skills while building friendships.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes beforehand to change, warmup, and chat with your friends. If possible, allow the same time after each game to socialize with your team and opposition, in the spirit of curling tradition.

Participants will need:

  • A CLEAN pair of rubber-soled shoes (i.e running shoes, sneakers, etc) that are carried into the club and not worn by the curler from the parking lot into the club -- this is mandatory as dirt and debris can harm the ice surface. Curling shoes are not required.
  • Helmets are required for kids 12 years old and younger, and are recommended for curlers with fewer than 3 years experience.
  • Wear stretchy or loose fitting clothes (i.e sweatpants/joggers, leggings, yoga pants, T-shirts and hoodies or zipped sweaters/thin jackets.) Comfortable layers suitable for 1.5 hours of play in a 4 degree Celsius arena. Jeans are not recommended.
  • Non-slip gloves or mitts are also recommended.

As per Oakville Curling Club Policy, all participants under the age of 12 are required to wear a properly fitted and secured (as per the direction of the manufacturer) helmet certified by the CSA (Canadian Standards Association) in the curling rink.  Curling, skating, hockey, snowboarding, skiing or other CSA (Canadian Standards Association) approved helmets are all acceptable options.  Other forms of headgear are not sufficient.  We are following the recommendations supported by the National Canadian Curling governing body.

Regardless of knowledge or curling experience, there are ways for all parents and guardians to participate in the program! Our program is run entirely by amazing volunteers, and extra hands are always appreciated on and off the ice (snack table and hot chocolate stations, for example!) Instructor lessons will be offered to parents curious about helping on-ice, no curling experience required, just a positive attitude! Monday Night Open League

Shake Off the Mondays: The Monday Night Open League is Calling! 🥌🔥

Ready to kick your week off with a bang? Forget the "Monday Blues"—we’re all about Monday Reds and Yellows! If you’re looking for a high-energy, low-stress way to hit the ice, the Monday Night Open League at the Oakville Curling Club is exactly where you need to be.

🌟 The Vibe: All Play, No Pressure

This is the ultimate adult mixed league where the only thing we take seriously is having a great time. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or you just bought your first pair of grippers, this league is built for you.

  • Skill Building: The best way to get better is to keep sliding!
  • Just for Fun: We don't track wins or losses here. It’s about the spirit of the game, not the score on the board.
  • Full Game Experience: We play 8 ends, but as long as you hit at least 6, you’ve earned that post-game refreshment!

🔄 Mix, Mingle, and Move!

Boredom isn't in our vocabulary. To keep things spicy and help you meet the whole OCC crew:

  • Team Shuffles: We reorganize teams every 5 weeks based on your preferred position.
  • Play Your Way: Request the position that fits your style, and we’ll handle the rest.

🍻 The 5th Week Finale: Tailgates & Trick Shots

Every five weeks, we turn the dial up to eleven! Our "Fun Nights" are the stuff of OCC legend:

  • The Tailgate Party: Celebrate the end of the draw with a massive social atmosphere (and yes, that usually means food!).
  • Historic Shot Challenge: Think you can channel your inner Brier champ? Every 5th week gives you the chance to showcase your talent by attempting to recreate a historic curling shot.

It’s social, it’s upbeat, and it’s the most fun you can have on a Monday night. Grab your broom and let’s make some noise!

Weekend Mixed: The Heartbeat of Oakville Curling

Ready to slide into the most vibrant community on the ice? The Weekend Mixed League isn’t just one of our largest programs—it’s the spirited soul of the Oakville Curling Club. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or fresh off the Learn to Curl sheets, this is where high-energy competition meets lifelong friendships.

Why You’ll Love This League

We believe the best games are won on the ice and celebrated in the lounge. Our league is built on three pillars: Great Curling, Better People, and Unforgettable Fun.

  • A Massive Community: With 80 teams across 10 divisions (A through J), you’ll be part of a massive network of curlers. It’s the perfect place to expand your social circle and find your "curling family."
  • The Ladder Challenge: Our points ladder system keeps things exciting! Teams are seeded by ability, ensuring every draw is competitive and fair.
  • True Mixed Format: In the spirit of the game, teams alternate between men and women delivering stones. It’s a balanced, inclusive way to play that stays true to Curling Canada standards.

The Season at a Glance

Our schedule is designed to fit your weekend lifestyle, rotating games across Friday nights and Saturday afternoons/evenings.

Feature Details
Structure 3 Draws of 7 games each
Game Time Friday at 6:40pm/9:00pm OR Saturday at 3:30/5:45/8:00pm
Progression Re-seeding after each series—climb the ranks!
The Finale Championship Weekend: A battle for ultimate divisional bragging rights.

More Than Just a Game

The "Mixed" in our name stands for more than just the roster—it’s about the mix of people! This league is famous for its social atmosphere. It is common to see teams heading out to local Oakville spots for dinner before a Saturday draw or sharing a laugh over a drink in the lounge afterward.

New to the sport? Welcome home! We specialize in matching individuals and couples with teammates of similar experience levels. If you’re graduating from Learn to Curl or the U5 League, our lower divisions provide a supportive, "no-pressure" environment to hone your skills.

Whether you’re entering as a full team or an individual looking for a crew, the Weekend Mixed League is ready for you. Let’s make some memories on the ice!

Senior Men’s Ladder

Welcome to the Oakville Curling Club Senior Men’s Ladder, the only place in town where "having a good delivery" refers to a perfectly weighted draw and not your local Amazon courier. If you’re 50 or better and looking for a league that balances high-stakes competition with the occasional reminder that knees are, in fact, structural liabilities, you’ve found your home.

The Gist: Competitive, Not Old

Don't let the silver hair fool you. These gents are as sharp as a fresh pebble and twice as stubborn. This is OCC’s premier competitive playground for the 50+ crowd. Whether you’re a seasoned skip with a trophy room or a lead who just discovered the joy of vigorous sweeping, the Ladder will keep you on your toes (unless you’ve already fallen over them).

How It Works: The "Climb or Slide" Format

We run a round-robin ladder format that spans the season, divided into three 7-game series.

  • The Goal: Win games, climb the ladder, and look dignified doing it.
  • The Reality: Avoid the "snakes" of the ladder while aiming for the "chutes."
  • The Finale: It all culminates in a single-knockout playoff tournament. We crown divisional winners and one ultimate League Champion who earns the eternal respect of the lounge.

Team Dynamics: Squad Goals

  • DIY Teams: You are responsible for forming your own crew. We permit 4 or 5-man teams (the 5th man is usually there for moral support or to take over when someone’s lower back decides to retire mid-game).
  • The Matchmaker: Flying solo? Short a lead? Don't panic. The league will assist with team formation by filling vacant spots or finding a home for individual free agents.

The Schedule: Thursday is for the Boys

Games are primarily played on Thursday afternoons. It’s the perfect time to "work from home" or "run errands" while actually perfecting your out-turn. Occasionally, we’ll throw in a game on an alternate weekday just to see who’s actually reading their calendar.

"If you can’t out-curl them, out-sweep them. If you can’t out-sweep them, make sure your post-game analysis in the lounge is louder."

Ready to join the fray? Dust off the slider, grab your broom, and prepare for a season of world-class curling and top-tier camaraderie. See you on the ice—just watch your step.

Icebreakers Mixed League

Hurry Hard (But Not Too Hard, It’s Still Daytime) 🥌

Welcome to the Icebreaker Mixed League—the Oakville Curling Club’s premier destination for people who have successfully hacked the system and figured out how to be on the ice while everyone else is stuck in a Zoom meeting.

If you’ve got a competitive streak wider than a 12-foot ring and a schedule that says "Open" between brunch and happy hour, you’ve found your people. We’re a mixed ladder league, which means the stakes are high, the stones are heavy, and the post-game analysis in the lounge is world-class.

Why You Belong Here:

  • The Ladder of Glory: We currently boast two divisions of 8 teams, but we’re growing faster than a frost bite in February. We’re eyeing a third division, so there’s plenty of room to climb (or gracefully slide down) the ranks.
  • Ageless Wonders: Whether you’re a spry young gun or a seasoned veteran who remembers when brooms were actually made of corn, you’re welcome. Our only age restriction is "can you get here by noon?"
  • The Vibe: It’s competitive enough to make your heart race, but friendly enough that we’ll still buy you a drink after you narrow-ly wick us off the button.

The Logistics (The "Fine Print"):

Feature The Details
Format Mixed Ladder (Competitive)
Current Size 2 Divisions (16 Teams)
Expansion 3 Divisions (24 Teams) – Join the growth!
Who Anyone and everyone with daytime availability.

"I told my boss I have a recurring mid-day appointment with some very heavy granite. Technically, I wasn't lying."Anonymous Icebreaker Member

Don't let your curling shoes gather dust in the basement. Come join the league where the draws are tight, the takeouts are loud, and the daytime curling lifestyle is celebrated.

Ready to break the ice? We'll see you on the sheets!

Evening Men’s League: Peak Performance. Low Latency. High Humility.

Listen, we all know you’ve spent your summer practicing your "hurry hard" shout in the shower and convinced yourself that your out-turn is basically Jacobs-level. It’s time to stop lying to your reflection and bring that ego down to the Oakville Curling Club for the Men’s Evening League.

This isn’t just a league; it’s the heartbeat of the club—or at least the part of the heart that pumps exclusively on Tuesday and Thursday nights (with the occasional Sunday thrown in for those who haven’t quite had enough self-inflicted heartbreak).

The Best This Side of the Brier (Probably)

We boast the finest club competition this side of the Brier. But before you start ordering your custom-fit Canada jacket, let’s be real: our points ladder system is designed to humble you. You’ll be seeded based on your actual ability, not your "I once made a triple-takeout in 2014" stories. You’ll play against people exactly as good (or as questionable) as you are, moving up and down the ranks like a slow-motion rollercoaster.

The Breakdown

  • The Scale: 80 teams total. 40 on Tuesday, 40 on Thursday. It’s busy, it’s loud, and there’s a high probability someone is wearing funnier pants than you.
  • The Grind: Weekly games from October through April. Two hours of intense strategy, sweeping until your lungs burn, and wondering why you didn't just join a darts league.
  • The Schedule: Early draws, late draws, and that occasional Sunday night draw to ensure your weekend ends with a healthy dose of "Why did I miss that draw to the button?"
  • The Format: Three draws of seven games each. It’s a marathon, not a sprint—unless you’re the lead and the skip is screaming at you to sweep.

The Grand Finale: The Crossover

Think you’re the king of Tuesday? Good for you. Our playoffs feature a crossover format where the Tuesday titans meet the Thursday legends. It all culminates in the Men’s Finals Event, where we determine the true Club Champions and who gets bragging rights at the bar for the next 12 months.

Join the Chaos

Whether you have a full squad of four ready to dominate or you’re a lone wolf looking to be matched with fellow curlers of "equivalent experience" (read: fellow enthusiasts of the post-game pint), we want you.

New members are always welcome. Come for the competition, stay for the camaraderie, and leave with the realization that the ice is always slicker than your excuses.

Are you ready to throw some rocks, or are you just going to keep talking about it?

Sunday Doubles League

Elevate Your Sunday: Join the Sunday Evening Doubles League!

Ready to inject some adrenaline into your Sunday nights? Experience the fastest-growing version of the "Roaring Game" right here at the Oakville Curling Club. Whether you’re looking to sharpen your skills or just find a high-energy way to wrap up your weekend, our Sunday Evening Doubles League is where you need to be.

Why Doubles?

It’s fast, it’s tactical, and it’s a total workout. With only two players per team and stones already positioned in the house, every shot matters and the action never stops. It’s the newest Olympic sensation, and it’s arguably the most fun you can have on the ice.

What to Expect:

  • Total Flexibility: This is an Open Doubles format. Bring your partner, your best friend, or your neighbor—there are no gender requirements here.
  • The "Social" in Social Club: We take our post-game traditions seriously. From reciprocal beverages in the lounge to themed "Fun Nights" (Grey Cup, Holiday Bash, and Brier/Scotties celebrations), the energy off the ice is just as vibrant as the competition on it.
  • All Skill Levels Welcome: We strive for balanced competition. We organize divisions based on experience so you’re always playing at the right tempo.

Registration Details

Teams vs. Individuals: Priority is given to full teams, but don't let that stop you! If you’re flying solo, sign up anyway—we’re experts at matchmaking and will pair you with the perfect teammate to take on the season.

Pro Tip: Sunday nights are better with a broom in your hand and a drink in your sight.

Don’t just watch the pros on TV—come play the game that’s taking the curling world by storm.

The Senators League

The Senators Men’s League: Where the Ice is Hard, but the Arteries are Harder.

Are you a "distinguished" gentleman of the Oakville Curling Club who enjoys the thrill of competition almost as much as a well-timed nap? Do you have knees that crack louder than a takeout on a fresh sheet of ice? Then welcome home.

The Senators Men’s League is officially scouting for new recruits who prioritize "camaraderie" (which we all know is code for complaining about the ice prep) over Olympic-level athleticism.

Why Join the Senators?

  • The "Anti-Commitment" Commitment: We use an individual entry system. You aren’t tethered to a team like a ball and chain. If you can’t make a game because of a doctor’s appointment or a sudden urge to feed the ducks, don’t sweat it—we find the spares for you.
  • The Great Shuffle: We run five series a year (6-8 games each). Every 4-5 weeks, we blow up the rosters and re-assign teams. It’s like speed dating, but with more wool sweaters and less heartbreak.
  • A Change of Scenery: While we call Oakville home on Tuesdays and Fridays, we’re basically a touring rock band (minus the groupies). You can sign up for "away games" at Dixie, Burlington Golf, and Mississauga Golf & Country Club on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The Rules of Engagement

We play 7 ends of somewhat-deliberate curling, followed by a roll-off. We award points for ends won, total scores, and the roll-off, because in this league, everyone deserves a gold star (or at least a participation trophy).

The $6 Buy-In: Every game costs a fiver and a loonie. Where does that money go?

  1. The Meat Prize: We reward the top two winning teams and—because we believe in mercy—the top two losing teams with meat packages. Nothing says "I played my heart out" like a tray of sausages.
  2. The Social Fund: The rest of your dough funds our legendary Christmas and Closing Luncheons, where the storytelling gets better as the afternoon goes on.

Are You Eligible?

If you can slide (or shuffle) down the ice without a map, you’re in. Our primary focus is fellowship, enjoyment, and ensuring nobody falls in the hack.

Come for the curling, stay for the meat, and enjoy the best daytime social scene in Oakville. Sign up today and let’s get rolling!

Disclaimer: The Senators League is not responsible for any egos bruised by a missed draw or any arguments regarding the "good old days" of corn brooms.
