Managers Report

Wow, what a season it has been. I cannot thank everyone enough for their support and enthusiasm for this great game of curling.

Our membership numbers have grown to 960 (830 last season), mainly through the hard work and dedication of our instructors’ team, headed by Tim McChesney and Helen Garside. They have consistently expanded our Learn to Curl(L2C) programs and our Try Curling days. To Tim and Helen and the whole instructors’ team, thank you.

Our tireless volunteers and bonspiel organizers have done a spectacular job of presenting the Oakville Curling Club and our style of curling to the rest of the world. Too many people to name them all individually but some who work selflessly for the benefit of others and our club. Rick Brady and his team got the inaugural International Gathering launched to a roaring success. The Oakville Annie – Jacquie Ramier, Sportsman – Ross Scarrow, and Jerry Sproat – Peter Campbell had awesome registrations and were highly successful. Cynthia Quigley and her committee finished the season with the World Lefthanders. Also, a hearty thanks to Ed Avolio and the Kurl 4 Kids bonspiel. An exciting weekend for an awesome cause and a good time had by all. And finally, a huge thanks to Scott Cooke and his committee for the launch of the United We Curl event in support of the LGBTQIA+ community. A great event that brought great exposure to the club for its awareness. And last but not least, Paul Gareau for relaunching the Closing Mixed Margaritaville Bonspiel. Good times and good beverages had by all. Our league convenors are the cornerstone of this club, and I frankly could not do my job without the dedication of these individuals. Thank you for running our leagues and making us the model club for the rest of the world.

Our icemaker Scott Foster who works his butt off to provide world class ice to you daily. Scott is always tinkering to make sure your conditions are top drawer. He was short staffed a lot this season because his hired help were off competing in Ontario playdowns and National Playdowns (Colsen Flemington and Evan MacDougall). Thank you Scott.

Casey has been the heart and soul of this club for over 25 years. I’m not sure where we would be without her leadership. Thank you Casey.

2024/25 Summer League Registration – Open

Much like last season, curling’s popularity is showing in our membership numbers for the summer league. We are already 80% sold-out, so if you are looking to play, don’t hesitate and register today.

2024/25 Regular season Registration Opens June 5th, 2024 at noon.

The good news is that fees have stayed the same for next year. Yayy!! The benefit to having a large successful membership in a Not-for-Profit Organization is that it helps to keep fees in line. A little added incentive to the membership this is season is we are adding a 5% discount to your membership and league fees if you register and pay by August 1st (No exceptions). Prize levies and locker fees are not discounted.

Also new for the 2024/25 Season is for all Youth curlers. If your parent(s) are members, the youth league fee is free. We will be running two different times for the Youth this season. The U18 and U15 group will play Sundays @ 11:15am. The U12 group will play Sundays at 1:30pm. If any U18/U15 youth are looking to get their volunteer hours in, they can assist Bridget Freitas accordingly. Please contact the office to add your name to the list.
