Dear Members,
As we move through the winter season, we would like to ask for your help in maintaining the best possible ice conditions for everyone.
The biggest challenge I face as an ice maker is the introduction of road salt onto the ice surface. Salt brought in on shoes or equipment is a major contributor to straight, fast, and slippery ice—conditions; unfortunately making the ice less enjoyable and more difficult for all curlers.
Salt is a catch 22 for the club. Liability laws force us to ensure the parking lots and walkways are free of ice and snow. But ice in a curling rink is difficult to control unless we have full buy-in by all the members.
We kindly ask everyone to be mindful when entering the club by:
Entering the club directly into the locker rooms and removing wet, salty shoes/boots
Ensuring footwear is clean and free of salt before stepping into the rink. Please consider, carrying your shoes to the rink to avoid walking on salt-soiled carpet
Using designated mats where provided
Please be mindful of where you walk in your outdoor footwear, so as not to contaminate entrances to the ice
These small steps make a big difference and help our ice team maintain consistent, high-quality playing conditions throughout the season.
Thank you for your cooperation and for doing your part to protect our ice. We truly appreciate the collective effort that keeps our club enjoyable for all members.
Warm regards,
Scott Foster
Head Ice Technician
