The Senior Mens Ladder is OCC’s competitive league for men aged 50 and over. Curlers are responsible for the formation and registration of their teams; 4 and 5-man teams are permitted. The league will assist with team formation, if requested, by filling vacant positions on teams and/or trying to find positions for individual curlers.
Teams compete throughout the curling season in a round-robin ladder format over 3 seven game series. Based on final league standings, a single knockout playoff tournament determines divisional winners and the overall league champions. Games are mostly played on Thursday afternoons at 12.15 pm and 2.30 pm with the occasional game on an alternate weekday.

There are 5 series per year of 6-8 games per series and each series lasts 4-5 weeks. The teams are formed by the league and changed every series. We strive to have you play with a large variety of curlers.
Games are 8 ends with a roll-off. Points are awarded for ends and points scored in the game and the roll-off portion. The top 2 teams from the winning and losing sides win a meat prize. For this each curler ante's up a few dollars per game. This pays for the meat prizes along with a Luncheon at Christmas and at season's end.

Day Women curling at the Oakville Curling Club takes place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings with a game time each day of 9:15am. The primary focus for curling on Tuesday and Thursday mornings is for recreation, skill development and socializing as opposed to competition. Sign up as individuals for our Tuesday and/or Thursday series of games. Then, random selections of team members are made before each of our four series based on players' advance position(s) requests and Games Convener discretion if necessary. Spread throughout the season are a few different inhouse bonspiels. These are mini events for Day Women with fun themes (such as the Trim-a-Tree and the Spring Fling) which always include an optional luncheon as well.
It's a great way to get to know many different women over the course of the season!

Our season starts off with a Drinks & Dips evening. This provides us with an opportunity to catch up on everyone's summer or go down onto the ice for some practise or to spend time meeting new members.
We have four different divisions comprising of beginners to seasoned curlers and everything in between. At the beginning of the season, teams are seeded according to their abilities and where they finished the season before.
Our league has three draws consisting of 7 games each during the curling season. The games alternate between a 6:50 pm game one week and a 9:05 pm game the next week.
The league is based on a points ladder system were teams are awarded points for wins, losses or ties. At the end of each draw the teams are reseeded based on the points they accumulated during the draw. It may sound complicated but we have a game co-ordinator who figures all this out for us!
We finish our curling season off with a single knock out playoff format. The last Wednesday of the curling season is for the WNL banquet.
Curling is a very social sport. It isn't about who wins or loses, it is about having fun with people on your team and the teams you curl against. Many teams have been together for years and the friendships that are created last beyond the curling club.
Mixed: Weekend Ladder
League: | Weekend Mixed Ladder |
Participants: | All levels of curlers 17 or older – sign up as a single, couple or as a team |
When: | Teams will rotate play between Friday (6:45pm and 9:05pm), Saturday (4:30pm, 6:45pm and 9:00pm) and the odd Sunday (5:00pm) |

At the beginning of the year teams are seeded according to their abilities and play in a points ladder system throughout. There are 3 draws of 7 games for each team in our 10 divisions (80 teams, Divisions A-J). Each game is scheduled to run for up to 2 hrs.
After each draw, teams are re-seeded according to their win, loss, tie record, and continue on to the next draw, culminating in the final weekend where we play for divisional bragging rights.
Mixed curling is a very social activity. Many of our members develop lasting friendships with teammates and opposing players alike. You may find some of our teams gathering together for dinner at local restaurants after the early Saturday game (4:30 finishing at 6:30).
We balance the schedule so that teams will rotate play between Friday (6:45pm and 9:05pm), Saturday (4:30pm, 6:45pm and 9:00pm) and the odd Sunday (5:00pm). We ask that each team delivers stones alternating between ladies and men to preserve a level of fair play.
New couples are always welcomed into the Mixed League, and will be matched with another couple in a suitable division based upon their experience. Full team entries are equally welcomed.
Open: Monday Night Fun
League: | Monday Night Fun |

When: | Teams will rotate play between Monday 6:50pm and 9:05pm |

This less competitive, adult mixed league is for all skill levels. It offers curlers a chance to meet many other club members and to continue to develop their skills.
This league does not track wins and losses. The games are 8 ends and it is encouraged that teams play at least 6 ends. For all curlers, your best way to improve is to keep playing.
Teams are made up based on players' chosen positions and although all attempts are made to balance the teams, requesting to play a position best suited to your ability helps.
Teams will be reorganized after 5 weeks; 4 weeks will be regular curling followed by a 5th fun night allowing a more recreational atmosphere, interesting challenges, and sometimes food!

Our Saturday Morning Open League is open to members of all skill levels. Sign up as an individual and identify which position(s) you wish to play.
There are 2 series of between 6 and 8 games. The league convenor builds the teams at the start of each series. Each game is scheduled to start at 9:00am and runs for up to 2 hours.
The winning team in each series will play against each other on the final day for the honor of having their names displayed on the league banner.
While we do track win/loss records for the games to determine the season’s winning team, this is a non-competitive league and we really want people to have fun. New curlers will gain experience through game play with our seasoned curlers.
Seasoned curlers will have the opportunity to hone their skills and to give back to the sport by assisting new curlers with their development.

NEW! The Sunday Evening Open League is a recreational, team-based, open format league. There are no rules regarding team throwing order.
- In 2020/2021, priority will be given to teams with 4 new club members, then 3 new club members and so on until the league is full.
- In 2021/2022, priority will be given to teams returning to the league, and then by new club members.
At the beginning of the year teams are seeded based on their skill level and experience. Before Christmas, there are 2 series of 4 games for each team in 4 divisions (16 teams, Divisions A-D). After each series, teams are re-seeded according to their win-loss record and continue onto the next draw. After Christmas, there will be a single series of 7 games for each team in 2 divisions (16 teams, Divisions A & B). Playoffs seeding is based on overall ranking and take place during the last 3 weeks of the season.
Sunday Evening Open is meant to be social. Teams are encouraged to participate in the traditional post-game reciprocal beverages and fun nights will be organized throughout the season (e.g Grey Cup, Christmas, Scotties/Brier, etc).
Registration priority will be given to full teams, however, individuals and couples are always welcome and will be matched with teammates in a suitable division based upon their experience.

Youth Curling League
The Sunday Youth Curling League will be open to all youth curlers aged 12-20 who have had experience on the ice. The main criteria for participating in this league will be that the curler can confidently, consistently with control deliver a full-size rock the length of the sheet. If this is a challenge, then the Youth Learn to Curl Program is the recommended start point.
The Sunday Youth Curling League will consist of 30 minutes of instruction (may be on-ice or off-ice) and a 90-minute game. Teams will vary from week to week, so you don’t have to worry about not attending on any given Sunday. Focused instruction will be geared towards the curlers age and experience (badge levels will be used to help divide up the groups). The instruction will focus on technical skills as well as curling etiquette, sportsmanship, respect, strategy and rules of play in a fun and social setting.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes beforehand to change and socializes, with the same time allowance post session.
Participants will need:
- Carry in CLEAN and rubber-soled shoes (not worn to the rink – this is mandatory). Curling shoes are not required, but great if you have them.
- Wear or bring loose fitting or stretchy, comfortable layers suitable for 2.0 hours of play in a 4C (degrees Celsius) arena. Jeans are not recommended.
- All curlers are required to wear regular rubber-soled running shoes (no slider or tape) or curling shoes with 2 grippers while not throwing stones.
- Non-slip gloves or mitts.
- Helmets are MANDATORY for all curlers under the age of 12 and are recommended for all other youth curlers.
As per Oakville Curling Club Policy, all participants under the age of 12 are required to wear a properly fitted and secured (as per the direction of the manufacturer) helmet certified by the CSA (Canadian Standards Association) in the curling rink. Curling, skating, hockey, snowboarding, skiing or other CSA (Canadian Standards Association) approved helmets are all acceptable options. Other forms of headgear are not sufficient. We are following the recommendations supported by the National Canadian Curling governing body.
Regardless of knowledge or curling experience, all parents and guardians are encouraged to participate in program supervision and coaching! An introductory coaching clinic will be held at the beginning of the season and experienced instructors will offer all participants – juniors and parents alike – guidance over the course of the curling season.
