That first snowfall must mean that curling season is well and truly upon us! I hope everyone has been enjoying the first few weeks of the season. Some early congratulations go out to a couple of our youth teams -- Team Flannery and Team MacDougall -- for their early season successes and to Team Bernot for scoring the season's first 8-ender! You can read all about member achievements and other announcements on the Member Blog.

Late last week, an email was sent to the membership from a member about a personal project that he had been undertaking and asking for donations to the Oakville and Milton Humane Society. Although the cause is commendable, the communication itself was not in line with the OCC Privacy Policy. On behalf of the Board and of the member who sent the email, I apologize for any inconvenience this caused. It is never the intention of the OCC to use your personal contact information for any purpose other than OCC business. The member would also like to apologize, saying, "My exuberance got the better of me... and in hindsight a direct email to some members as friends would have been more appropriate."

Finally, we are looking for some enthusiastic member(s) who are interested in planning and hosting the Club's annual Valentine's Day Bonspiel. The spiel is scheduled for Saturday, February 8th and doesn't necessarily have to be Valentine's Day themed. All thoughts, suggestions and ideas are welcome, as long as they come with some helping hands!

As always, good curling!

Chris.

We Need Your HelpThe Oakville Curling Club is in need of volunteers to track and monitor food and recycling waste at the U15 bonspiel November 16, 2019. The volunteers will not be required to sort or touch recycling or food waste. This is in partnership with Halton Environmental Network in an effort to curb waste at the OCC and 'green' our facilities. High school volunteer hours will be given through Halton Environmental Network. This position is open to both OCC members and non-members.

rock.maintenanceHello Curlers.

Historically, I have sanded the rocks on Thanksgiving weekend for the beginning of our season. This year, largely due to our new ceiling, the rocks were still performing well enough to let them go longer.

Wednesday November 13 we will be performing the first rock maintenance. It generally takes about a week for them to settle in, so take some extra extra ice and try to throw a little more rotation until they calm down.

Good curling,
Scott Foster
Head Ice Technician
