Team EdmondsonOur expansion this year to 40 teams has worked out quite well.  This has given us an even distribution of teams in our ladder.  Our plan is to stick with 40 teams into the next season.  Frank, Stu and Roy plan to revamp our rules a bit during the off-season, so check out the website at the end of the summer to see the changes.

The semi-finals were extra exciting this year with four games extending to an extra end.  You could tell that there were some close shots in the finals by the sound level in the lounge after some of the rocks got to the house.

We look forward to all getting back together next season, but now it is time to focus on some outdoor activities.  Enjoy the summer !

OCC.Exterior.2x1The next Annual General Meeting of the Oakville Curling Club will be held on Wednesday June 19, 2019.  The meeting will be held in the club lounge starting at 7:00 pm.

You will received your notice via email at least 10 days prior to the meeting.

OCC.Arena.PictureOver the March break we were closed for 3 days while our Head Ice Technician (Scott Foster), Assistant Ice Technician (Kevin Mooney) and our ice team completed a 'Controlled Melt' to our ice surface.

There are two main reasons to melt the ice for maintenance purposes:

Eliminate Dirt & Impurities:

  • Despite the fact that we scrape the ice twice per day, there is still a significant amount of dirt, lint, hair, dust etc. that continuously accumulates on the ice surface, and some of that inevitably gets buried in the ice.
  • It also eliminates the many knee prints that unfortunately accumulate over time.
  • By melting the top quarter inch of ice, most of this dirt floats to the surface where it can be removed with the scraper.
  • Cleaner ice not only looks better, but it also improves the bond between the surface and the pebble, which helps the life of the pebble.

Anne.Hall

Anne Hall (1958-2019)

(nee Creaghan)

Anne passed away peacefully at Ian Anderson House on Saturday March 16, 2019 with her family at her side.  Anne battled cancer for over 12 1/2 years and fought it with energy, tenacity and an incredibly positive attitude that was an inspiration for us and for so many others.

Dearly loved daughter of Barbara and the late Donald Creaghan of Riverview, New Brunswick.  Wife and best friend of Jeff of Oakville for 37 years.  Wonderful mother to Brendan (Stephanie Sinclair) and Lindsay (Adrian Wong).  Best Grammy in the world to Melanie and Charlie.  Dear sister of Mary (Paul Taylor) of Elizabethton, Tennessee.

Anne was a wonderful, fun, outgoing person who made good friends easily and kept them forever.  She loved curling, bridge, golfing and time in Muskoka.  Her family and two young grandchildren meant the world to her.

Jerry.Sproat.Champions.2019.Team.EdmondsonThe second annual Jerry Sproat Senior Men's Bonspiel was held on Wednesday, March 6th, 2019 at the Oakville Curling Club.

Again this year, Oak-Land Ford was the title sponsor.

As a new feature this year, Oak-Land Ford chose a charity - Food4Kids Halton.

Food4Kids Halton partners with elementary schools in the area to assist children who do not have enough to eat.

Our bonspiel was successful in raising approximately $1500 in cash and gift card donations from Oakville area grocery stores.  In addition, our food drive netted nearly $1300 in donated food goods, all going to Food4Kids Halton.

Team.Fendley.TGIFAfter a significant win in the first game it came down to the last shot in the second end, a double take-out, which was truly a team effort. We placed second overall.

The event was held March 8 in Bancroft.

St. Catherines I Am Canadian BonspielTeam Aziz started strong with a decisive victory in their first game and then were narrowly defeated by the team that went on to win for their 3rd year in a row (Team Carr from Welland). The second day Team Aziz won both games, taking 9 ends and a measure to get the final win. It was worth it as the team came in second overall.
