We appreciate your patience as the Club develops plans for the upcoming season. As more information becomes available and the state of the Club's reopening becomes more clear, decisions about curling are being made and Return-to-Play Guidelines are being fine-tuned.
The Board of Directors has given the go-ahead to open the Club for Tuesday, October 13th provided the following conditions are met:
- the Club has retained at least approximately 60% membership revenue by September 15th and
- the provincial reopening restrictions are at or better than the current conditions.
Members must pay their fees by September 15th. Payment by this date is important as it will dictate whether or not the Club can proceed with turning the ice plant on, which needs to happen a minimum 3 weeks before the first day of curling. If the Club doesn't achieve the 60% threshold by that date, the Board of Directors will postpone starting the ice plant and determine a subsequent date in which the Club could reopen.
Paid fees will be subject to the Club's Refund Policy. After October 1st, members will only be eligible for a refund of half of their fees (not including OCA fees, building levy, prize levy and new member fees, where applicable). Members who are interested in sitting out the first half of the season may renew their membership for January 2021 for 50% of the league fees (OCA fees, building levy, prize levy & new membership fees, where applicable, will all be charged in full), pending space is available in leagues.
Due to the costs involved in preparing for the curling season and reopening the Club, in the event of complete Club closure prior to January 1st, no refunds will be issued for the first half of the season.
Members who do not wish to curl this season, but wish to retain their league spot into the 2021/2022 season and voting rights at the 2021 Annual General Meeting may pay for an interim Pandemic Membership. Pandemic Memberships are $200 plus HST, plus the $75 Building Levy, where applicable, and are available to Anytime, Weekday and Intermediate members who played in the 2019/2020 season. Pandemic Members will have access to practice ice and Club events, but will not have the ability to spare. If a Pandemic Member wishes to renew their full membership, the value of the Pandemic Membership will be applied to their renewal fees.

While every effort is being made to ensure a safe return to play, ultimately the decision is up to each member to make an informed decision. Curling isn’t an essential activity – it’s optional. The Oakville Curling Club cannot guarantee, despite all of our efforts and desire to keep everyone safe, that COVID-19 won’t somehow enter the club and be transmitted there. We encourage members to think carefully about the risk associated with curling before they commit to the season. Each member is responsible to assess their own risk and comfort level with curling and socializing at the Club. We have included options for those who do not feel comfortable playing but wish to remain part of the Oakville curling community, such as an Associate Membership, a Social Membership, or a Pandemic Membership.
