Congratulations to the OCC's Special Olympics team for their 4th place finish at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Thunder Bay! The team would like to send a big THANK YOU to the World Lefthanders Championship Committee and the OCC Senior Men's and Evening Men's Leagues for their support!
Oakville Curling Club would like to send our best with the OCC's Special Olympics teams of Noah Banton (skip), Sofia Dershko, Dylan Hansen, Bill Hickson and coaches Delores McCallum and Patti Wheatley-Hansen, who are competing in the 2020 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Thunder Bay this week!
This team was formed 4 years ago to prepare for Provincial Qualifiers which took place in Milton in 2017. After qualifying in “D” Division they were off to Provincials in 2018 in Sault Ste. Marie where the team went undefeated until the final game when they lost by 1 point to the the team from Thunder Bay and received the silver medal. They were very happy with that result. A short time later they were notified they would be going to the Canada Winter Games. The team has been hard at work, with many on ice and off ice practices over the course of the season and they feel prepared for this challenge. It is a great way to finish off the Quadrennial and they are excited to take part in this national event.
The support of the World Lefthanders and the Senior Men’s and Men’s leagues at the Oakville Curling Club has bolstered the team's enthusiasm and excitement and made the trip stress free in terms of finances.
