Returning your 21/22 Special Assessment

As we approach the 2-year anniversary of the Club’s first Covid shutdown, and are starting to see some light at the end of the pandemic tunnel, we are taking time to reflect on the last 2 years of challenges that the Club has faced and our path to recovery and growth.

Through all the challenges of the last 2 years, we’ve been incredibly lucky to count on you, the members, to be as passionate and committed to the Club as always. When we reopened for the current season, we were honest with you about our financial situation and, at the time that fees were approved, there was a tremendous amount of uncertainty about what the season would look like, what our membership retention levels would be, and if we could operate under close to ‘normal’ conditions. We told you that it would be necessary to recruit a minimum of 600 members and that each member would be asked to pay a Special Assessment fee of more than $270 to ensure that the Club’s financial position would be stable if our operations were limited. You stepped up and committed to helping the Club through that challenge.

In the fall, we were approved for an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant of approximately $100,000 to help cover some of our operational expenses over the curling season. As a result of that grant, we were able to reconsider the Special Assessment amount and reduced it to $100.

Since that time, the Club has operated under better than anticipated conditions, including being able to host a series of external summer events, operating a highly successful summer program, conducting a number of Learn-to-Curl programs, reopening the bar, and exceeding our membership target by more than 15%. All of these things have had a significant positive impact on the Club’s finances.

In light of this, we are pleased to announce that we are giving those funds back to you! All current members that paid the Special Assessment Fee for the 2021/22 season will receive the full $113 ($100 plus HST) in the form of a credit toward next season’s curling fees. If you do not plan to return to the Club next season, you may request a refund of the fee in writing by email to the Club office.

We want to thank you for your continued support. and we look forward to celebrating getting closer to normal as we close out the season over the next couple of months.

Good Curling!
